An icebreaker question generator with 300 questions worth asking
A good icebreaker is short, easy to answer and impossible to get wrong. This icebreaker question generator holds 300 questions written for this page and tagged by situation — Work for meetings and stand-ups, Team for getting to know colleagues, Kids for classrooms and family dinners, Deep for conversations that go somewhere, Funny for groups that need loosening up, and Would you rather for quick two-way choices.
Tick the types that fit your group, press Next question and read it out. Or build a list of up to fifty questions, copy it into your agenda, download it as a text file or print a one-page sheet for a workshop table. Questions are drawn from a shuffled deck, so you will not see a repeat until every matching question has been used.
The whole bank is built into the page: nothing is fetched, nothing is sent, and it works offline once loaded.
How to use the Icebreaker Question Generator
- Choose the Question types. The counter shows how many of the 300 questions match; untick anything that would feel out of place for your group.
- Press Next question (or N / the right arrow key) to draw one. Previous steps back through what you have already drawn (Next then moves forward again before drawing new ones), and Copy question puts it on the clipboard.
- For a prepared session, set Questions in the list and press Make a list. The list is numbered and shows each question’s tags.
- Use Copy list to paste into a document or chat, Download .txt for a file, or Print sheet for a clean printed page with only the questions on it.
- Change the ticked types at any time; the deck reshuffles and a new question appears straight away.
Icebreaker Question Generator features
300 original questions
Fifty or more per type, all written for this page rather than scraped, with a mix of light, practical and thoughtful prompts.
Six tags, any combination
Work, Team, Kids, Deep, Funny and Would you rather. Some questions carry two tags, and the match counter updates as you tick and untick.
No repeats until the deck is empty
Questions come from a shuffled deck of the matching set, so a forty-minute workshop never hears the same question twice.
Previous and keyboard control
Step back through the last hundred questions, and move forward or back with the arrow keys or N without touching the mouse.
Lists, files and print sheets
Build a numbered list of 1–50 questions, copy it, download it as .txt, or print a sheet that hides everything else on the page.
Works on any device
Large tap targets, a question card that scales to the screen, and no account or download needed.
How to run an icebreaker that people actually enjoy
- Match the question to the trust in the room. New groups do well with Team or Funny; Deep questions belong with people who already know each other or have opted in to that kind of conversation.
- Answer first yourself. A facilitator who answers briefly and honestly sets the length and tone for everyone else.
- Keep it to thirty seconds a person. For groups larger than eight, split into pairs or use the printed sheet so several conversations run at once.
- Make passing easy. Say up front that anyone can say “pass” or ask for the next question — the Previous button also helps when someone wants the one before.
- Use Would you rather for speed. Two options and a one-line reason take ten seconds and get even quiet people talking.
Which type for which occasion
| Situation | Suggested types | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly team meeting | Work | “What’s one small thing that made your week better?” |
| New hire’s first day | Team, Funny | “What’s a hobby you picked up as an adult?” |
| Classroom morning circle | Kids, Would you rather | “If you had a robot, what chores would it do?” |
| Retreat or offsite | Deep, Team | “What’s a decision you’re glad you made even though it was hard?” |
| Family dinner or road trip | Kids, Funny, Would you rather | “Would you rather have a pet dinosaur or a pet dragon?” |
| Remote stand-up | Work, Would you rather | “Would you rather work four long days or five short ones?” |
Pairing with other tools
Use the random name picker to choose who answers next without anyone feeling singled out, or the spin the wheel page for a bit of theatre in a workshop. For splitting a large group into breakout pairs before the questions start, the team generator does it in one click. The printed sheet from this page fits on a single A4 or Letter page for lists of up to about 25 questions.
Icebreaker Question Generator FAQ
Are these icebreaker questions free to use?
Yes. Use them in meetings, classrooms, workshops and events, print them, paste them into slides — no attribution or sign-up needed.
How many questions are there?
300, each tagged with one or two of six types: Work, Team, Kids, Deep, Funny and Would you rather. The counter under the tags shows how many match your current selection.
Will I get the same question twice?
Not until every question that matches your selected types has been shown. The deck is shuffled, dealt to the end, then reshuffled, and it never deals the same question twice in a row.
Can I print the questions?
Yes. Make a list (or just press Print sheet to print 20 random matching questions), then Print sheet opens your browser’s print dialog with a clean page containing only the numbered questions.
Are the kids’ questions suitable for a classroom?
They are written for roughly ages 5–12, avoid personal or sensitive topics, and work for morning circles, lesson warm-ups and family meals. Teachers of older pupils often mix in Team and Would you rather.
Can I add my own questions?
Not on this page — the bank is fixed so it stays consistent. Copy a list into a document and add your own there if you need a custom set.
