A font viewer that shows every glyph, not just the keyboard letters

This font viewer and glyph map opens a TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2, TTC or EOT file in your browser and draws every glyph it contains as a grid — letters, figures, symbols, and also the glyphs no key on your keyboard reaches: ligatures such as fi, stylistic alternates, small capitals, Devanagari conjuncts and half forms. Tap any glyph to see it large, with its baseline, x-height, cap height, ascender and descender lines, its advance box and, if you like, every on-curve and control point of the outline.

It is the tool for checking a font before you buy, install or ship it: does it have ₹, € and Turkish İ? Is there a slashed zero or an alternate “a”? How many glyphs are hidden behind OpenType features? The coverage table counts the characters in each Unicode block, and you can download any glyph as SVG or PNG or the whole glyph list as CSV.

The file is read by JavaScript on your device and never uploaded, so unreleased or licensed fonts stay private.

How to use the Font Viewer & Glyph Map

  1. Drop a font file on the box, or press Try a sample font to open a 291-glyph variable font.
  2. Read the summary: family and style, number of glyphs, mapped characters, unmapped glyphs, outline type and units per em.
  3. Use Show to switch between all glyphs in glyph-ID order, characters in Unicode order, unmapped glyphs only, or one Unicode block. Change the Cell size to see more or bigger glyphs.
  4. Type in Find a character, U+ code or glyph name: paste “₹”, write U+0915, or a name fragment such as .alt or fi.
  5. Tap a glyph to open its details. Tick Show outline points to see how it is drawn, then Copy character, Copy code, Download SVG or Download PNG.
  6. Scroll to Unicode coverage by block, or press Download glyph list (CSV) for a spreadsheet of every glyph.

Font Viewer & Glyph Map features

Every glyph, mapped or not

Glyphs are listed by glyph ID straight from the font, so ligatures, alternates and conjunct forms that have no Unicode code point appear too.

Real metrics

The detail view draws the glyph in font units with baseline, x-height and cap height from the OS/2 table, ascender and descender from hhea, and the advance width box.

Outline points

On-curve points and control points with their handles show whether a glyph uses TrueType quadratic or CFF cubic curves and how carefully it is drawn.

Search three ways

By pasted character, by U+ code, or by glyph name — useful for finding .ss01 or .sc variants.

Unicode coverage table

Characters per block, from the Unicode 18.0 block list, show at a glance whether a font covers Latin Extended, Cyrillic, Devanagari or currency symbols.

Exports

Any glyph as a clean SVG or a 512-pixel PNG, and a CSV of glyph ID, name, code point, character and advance width.

Glyphs, characters and why the counts differ

A character is a Unicode code point such as U+0041 “A”. A glyph is a drawing in the font. The cmap table maps characters to glyphs; OpenType features in the GSUB table swap glyphs for others as you type. That is why a font often has more glyphs than characters: in a Devanagari font, क्ष, त्र and dozens of half forms are glyphs with no code point of their own, and in a Latin display font, swashes and small capitals are. The unmapped glyphs view lists exactly these.

Two characters can also share one glyph (a space and a no-break space, or Latin “A” and Greek “Α” in some fonts) — the detail panel lists every code point that points to the selected glyph.

What you seeWhat it means
Glyph 0 drawn as a boxThe .notdef glyph — what appears when the font lacks a character (“tofu”).
Empty cell labelled “space”A glyph with an advance width but no outline: spaces and zero-width characters.
Name such as a.ss01, f_i, uni0915_uni094DAn alternate, a ligature, or a conjunct component reached through OpenType features.
Advance width in unitsHow far the pen moves after the glyph, in font units; divide by units per em to get ems.

Limits and what to use next

Glyphs are drawn without hinting and without variation: a variable font shows its default instance (test the axes with the variable font tester). Colour glyphs (COLR, SVG, bitmap emoji) show their plain outline or nothing. Bitmap-only fonts and SVG fonts cannot be drawn. Very large fonts (CJK, 20,000+ glyphs) open fine but load 120 glyphs at a time.

To read the licence, designer and embedding permission, use the font metadata viewer; to change the format use the font converter; to remove unused glyphs use the font subsetter.

Font Viewer & Glyph Map FAQ

How do I see all the characters in a font file?

Open the file in this font viewer. The grid shows every glyph; switch Show to “Characters, in Unicode order” to list only the ones you can type, or pick a Unicode block.

Can I view a font without installing it?

Yes. The file is parsed in the browser tab and nothing is installed or uploaded. Close the tab and it is gone.

Why does the font have more glyphs than characters?

Ligatures, alternates, small capitals and Indic conjunct forms are separate glyphs without their own code point. They are reached through OpenType features while text is shaped.

How do I check if a font supports the rupee sign (₹)?

Type ₹ or U+20B9 into the search box. If no glyph appears, the font lacks it; the Currency Symbols row of the coverage table shows which currency signs exist.

Can I export a glyph as SVG for a logo?

Yes — select it and press Download SVG. Check the font licence first: the SIL Open Font License allows it, many commercial licences restrict logo use.

Which font formats does the viewer open?

TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2, TrueType collections (TTC, choose the face) and uncompressed or XOR-obfuscated EOT. MicroType-compressed EOT and SVG fonts are not supported.
