Concentrated Liquidity Calculator – Range, Amounts & IL

Token amounts, liquidity L, capital efficiency and impermanent loss for a v3-style price-range position.

A narrow range magnifies both fees and impermanent loss. This page models price only — not fees, rewards, gas or smart-contract risk. It is a calculator, not investment advice.

Tick = floor(log1.0001(price × 10quote decimals − base decimals)). Pools only accept ticks on their tick spacing, and if the base token has the higher contract address the pool stores the inverse price, so its ticks change sign.

What the concentrated liquidity calculator shows

In a concentrated liquidity pool you choose a price range, and your deposit only provides liquidity — and earns fees — while the price is inside it. That makes the same money work several times harder than in a full-range pool, but it also changes how much of each token you must deposit, and it magnifies impermanent loss. This concentrated liquidity calculator works out all of that for a v3-style position from a few numbers: the current price, your minimum and maximum price, and how much you are depositing.

It shows the exact amounts of each token to deposit, the liquidity value L and the square-root prices the pool uses, the capital efficiency compared with a full-range position, what you end up holding if the price leaves the range on either side, and the impermanent loss at any test price — next to the loss a full-range position would have for the same move.

Everything runs in your browser with public formulas; no wallet, pool or price feed is touched. Fees, rewards and gas are not included, so the result is a price-only view. It is not investment advice.

How to use the Concentrated Liquidity Range Calculator

  1. Enter the two token symbols — the base token you price, and the quote token you price it in.
  2. Enter the current price, your deposit value in the quote token, and the minimum and maximum price of your range, or press a ±% button.
  3. Enter a test price to see what the position would be worth there and how that compares with holding.
  4. Read the token amounts, capital efficiency, impermanent loss, chart and table.
  5. Open On-chain values and enter token decimals to see ticks and raw liquidity.

Concentrated Liquidity Range Calculator features

Deposit amounts

How much of each token the range needs at today’s price, and the split by value.

Liquidity and √price

The L value and square-root prices from the published concentrated liquidity formulas.

Capital efficiency

How many times more liquidity the range gives than a full-range position with the same money.

IL inside and outside the range

Loss versus holding at any price, with a chart against a full-range position.

Ticks

Tick indexes for your range from the token decimals, for checking a position before you create it.

The formulas

For liquidity L over a range from pa to pb, with s the square root of the price kept inside [√pa, √pb], the position holds x = L(1/s − 1/√pb) of the base token and y = L(s − √pa) of the quote token. Below the range it is all base token; above it, all quote token. These come from the virtual-reserve curve (x + L/√pb)(y + L√pa) = L² in the v3 core whitepaper (March 2021), where tick i has the price 1.0001i.

The deposit value is x·p + y, so L = deposit ÷ (value per unit of L). A full-range position with the same L would be worth 2L√p, so capital efficiency is 2L√p ÷ deposit. When the price sits at the geometric centre of the range this equals 1 ÷ (1 − (pa/pb)¼).

Worked example: 10,000 USDC into ETH/USDC from 1,600 to 2,500 with ETH at 2,000 (the centre, since √(1,600 × 2,500) = 2,000) needs 2.5 ETH and 5,000 USDC. Capital efficiency is 1 ÷ (1 − 0.64¼) ≈ 9.47×. If ETH rises to 2,400 the position is worth about 10,568.6 USDC against 11,000 for holding: impermanent loss of 3.92%, compared with 0.41% for a full-range position.

Impermanent loss in and out of range

  • Inside the range the position behaves like a leveraged full-range position, so the loss grows much faster.
  • Above the range you hold only the quote token and miss further gains; the loss keeps growing as the price rises.
  • Below the range you hold only the base token as it falls, so the loss compared with holding grows too.
  • Out of range earns nothing. Fees only accrue while the price is inside; the calculator shows when that is the case.

Concentrated Liquidity Range Calculator FAQ

How do you calculate liquidity for a price range?

Divide the deposit value by the value of one unit of liquidity at the current price: (1/√p − 1/√pb)·p + (√p − √pa). The concentrated liquidity calculator does this and shows L.

How much of each token do I need for a v3 position?

Base = L(1/√p − 1/√pb) and quote = L(√p − √pa). At the centre of the range the split is 50/50 by value; nearer one end it leans to one token.

Is impermanent loss worse with concentrated liquidity?

Yes. For the same price move the loss is several times larger than in a full-range pool, roughly in line with the capital efficiency — fees must be higher to make up for it.

What happens when the price leaves my range?

The position turns entirely into one token and stops earning fees until the price comes back.

Does this include fees?

No. It shows the price effect only; compare its impermanent loss with the fees you expect to earn while in range.
