AAC to MP3 Converter

Convert .aac and .m4a audio to MP3 for older players, car stereos and upload forms — tags and artwork kept.

Drop AAC files here or click to choose .aac, .m4a, .mp4 · several at once · other audio formats work too · nothing is uploaded

Raw .aac (ADTS) and .m4a files both work. FairPlay-protected .m4p purchases can’t be decoded by any browser tool, and multichannel AAC is mixed down to stereo.

Runs entirely in your browser — your audio is never uploaded. The Mediabunny engine (MPL-2.0), the LAME, FLAC and AAC encoders (LGPL/BSD) and the Vorbis encoder (BSD) are downloaded once from a CDN, only when needed.

Convert AAC to MP3 for devices that won’t play AAC

This AAC to MP3 converter turns AAC audio — raw .aac files as well as AAC inside .m4a and .mp4 — into ordinary MP3s. AAC is everywhere: phones record it, the iTunes Store sold it, apps and screen recorders save it. MP3 is still what older MP3 players, many car stereos, some smart speakers, DJ software and upload forms expect. Converting runs in your browser, so the files never leave your device.

Raw .aac files are a particular nuisance: they are plain ADTS streams with no index, so some players can’t seek in them or show the wrong length. Converting to MP3 fixes that, and any ID3 tag at the start of the .aac — title, artist, album and cover art — is copied to the MP3.

How to use the AAC to MP3 Converter

    1. Drop .aac, .m4a or other AAC files on the upload area; each one shows its bitrate and length.
    2. Pick a Bitrate (constant). Choose the AAC’s own bitrate or the next step up — 192 kbps for 128–160 kbps sources, 256 or 320 kbps for iTunes-quality 256 kbps files.
    3. Leave Sample rate and Channels on Keep original unless a device needs something specific.
    4. Press Convert to MP3; a progress bar follows each file.
    5. Play the result next to the original and download it, or save a batch as a ZIP.

    AAC to MP3 Converter features

    Every AAC container

Raw ADTS .aac, .m4a, DRM-free .m4b audiobooks, .mp4 and .mov audio tracks, and AAC in MKV or WebM.

    Constant-bitrate MP3

64–320 kbps CBR from the LAME encoder: predictable sizes and accurate seeking on every player.

    Tags follow the audio

ID3 tags from raw .aac files and iTunes atoms from .m4a files become ID3v2 tags, including the cover picture.

    No network after loading

Once the page and encoder have loaded, conversions need no further network access.

    Batch and ZIP

Convert a folder of recordings at once and download them together.

Why convert AAC to MP3 at all?

    • Car stereos and older players. MP3 support is universal; AAC support depends on the model and year, and raw .aac files are the least supported of all.
    • Upload forms and software. Audiobook platforms, some podcast hosts, karaoke and DJ programs and many web forms accept MP3 only.
    • Editing tools. Some audio editors need an extra FFmpeg library before they can open AAC; every editor opens MP3.
    • Accurate seeking. MP3 frames have fixed timing, and the converter writes an Info header, so players show the right length and jump to any point.

Choosing the MP3 bitrate for AAC sources

MP3 needs more bits than AAC for the same quality, so going one step above the AAC bitrate protects against the artefacts of a second lossy encode. Going much higher only makes the file bigger.

    What can’t be converted

AAC purchases from the iTunes Store before 2009 often carry FairPlay DRM and use the .m4p extension; browsers can’t decode them, and removing DRM isn’t something this tool does. Songs downloaded through a streaming subscription are protected the same way. Everything else with AAC audio converts, and the file list tells you at once if a track can’t be decoded. For AAC inside a video, Video to MP3 adds a trim range, and M4A to MP3 covers iPhone voice memos in detail.

    AAC to MP3 Converter FAQ

How do I convert AAC to MP3?

Drop your .aac or .m4a file on this page, choose a bitrate and press Convert to MP3. The MP3 downloads automatically.

Does AAC to MP3 lose quality?

A little, because MP3 re-encodes audio that AAC already compressed. Choosing the AAC’s bitrate or the next step up keeps the loss very hard to hear.

Can it convert M4A files too?

Yes. An .m4a is AAC inside an MP4 container, and it converts exactly like a raw .aac file. Apple Lossless .m4a files need a browser that decodes ALAC, such as Safari.

Why won’t my .m4p file convert?

It is protected by Apple’s FairPlay DRM, which browsers can’t decode. Only DRM-free files can be converted.

Are tags and cover art kept?

Yes. Title, artist, album, track number, year and artwork are copied into the MP3’s ID3v2 tag.

    Is it free and private?

Yes — no sign-up, no watermark, no upload. Everything runs locally in your browser.
