A wedding flower calculator for bouquets, centrepieces and garlands
Ordering wedding flowers yourself — or checking a florist’s quote — starts with one question: how many stems? This wedding flower calculator lists every arrangement, from the bridal bouquet and buttonholes to centrepieces and the ceremony arch, multiplies each by its stems per item, and splits the result into main flowers, fillers and greenery. It then adds a buffer for broken or closed blooms and works out how many bunches to buy and what they cost.
There is an Indian wedding starting point too, with the varmala (jaimala) pair, marigold strings by the metre for the mandap, toran and haldi décor, mandap pillar arrangements, rose-petal baskets and the wedding car. Every number is editable, and you can save the list as a CSV that opens in Excel or Google Sheets.
How to use the Wedding Flower Calculator
- Choose a starting point: a wedding, an Indian wedding or a small wedding or elopement.
- Set the quantity of each item — bridesmaids, buttonholes, tables — and remove anything you do not need, or press Add an item.
- Adjust the main flowers, fillers and greenery per item to match your design or your florist’s recipe.
- Keep about 10% extra stems, and open Bunch sizes and prices to see bunches and cost.
- Press Copy flower list or Download CSV to order from a wholesaler or compare quotes.

How many stems per arrangement?
Ranges as published by a florist supplier (Blooming More, read 19 October 2026) for focal flowers about 4 cm across. Large blooms — hydrangea, peony, garden roses — cover more space, so fewer stems are needed; a hydrangea bouquet may use only four or five heads.
| Arrangement | Main flowers | Fillers and greenery |
|---|---|---|
| Bridal bouquet | 24–36 | 5–10 filler + a few greenery |
| Bridesmaid bouquet | 12–18 | 3–5 filler |
| Boutonniere (buttonhole) | 1–2 | a sprig of filler or greenery |
| Low centrepiece | 15–25 | 8–12 filler, 4–6 greenery |
| Tall centrepiece | 35–50 | 10–15 filler + greenery |
| Ceremony arch or backdrop | 80–150 mixed stems | depends on how full it is |
Indian wedding flowers: varmala and marigold strings
There is no published standard for Indian décor quantities, so the Indian rows are estimates to check with your phoolwala. A rose varmala of about 4–5 ft is taken as roughly 75 roses per garland (150 for the pair), and a tightly strung marigold ladi as about 40 flowers per metre. Measure the mandap: four pillars of 2.5 m with two strings each plus a canopy fringe soon adds up to 60–100 metres.
Marigolds are usually sold by weight or ready-strung by the metre, so ask the supplier how many heads they count per kilogram or what a metre of strings costs, and enter that as the bunch size and price.
Tips for ordering wedding flowers
- Order a little extra. About 10% covers stems that snap, bruise or do not open in time.
- Buy two to three days ahead for roses and lilies to open; marigolds and jasmine are best bought fresh the day before.
- Reuse arrangements. Ceremony arrangements and bridesmaid bouquets can move to the reception tables.
- Put the flower cost into the wedding budget calculator and the ordering date into the wedding checklist.
Wedding Flower Calculator FAQ
How many flowers do I need for a wedding?
A typical wedding with a bridal bouquet, four bridesmaids, buttonholes, an arch and 12 low centrepieces needs around 900 stems including 10% extra — about 520 main flowers, 235 fillers and 155 greenery stems. The wedding flower calculator works it out for your own list.
How many stems are in a bridal bouquet?
Usually 24–36 main flowers plus 5–10 filler stems and a little greenery for a medium round bouquet. A large cascade can need 50 or more; a hydrangea bouquet only a few heads.
How many roses for a varmala?
It depends on size and density. As a starting point this tool uses about 75 roses per garland, 150 for the pair; ask your florist and change the number.
Is there a wedding flower calculator in Excel?
Use the Download CSV button: the file opens in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers with every item, the stems by type and the totals to buy.
How many stems come in a bunch?
US wholesale roses usually come in bunches of 25 and many fillers and greens in bunches of 10, but it varies by flower and market, so set the bunch size your supplier uses.
