Exports an MP4 file: H.264 video and AAC sound, encoded on your device with WebCodecs.

Runs entirely in your browser — your videos, photos and music are never uploaded. The Mediabunny media library (MPL-2.0) is downloaded once from a CDN.

A simple video editor that works in your browser

This simple online video editor turns a handful of clips and photos into one finished video. Drop in videos and still images, trim each one, split a clip at the playhead, drag the pieces into order, add titles or captions, lay background music underneath and blend clips with crossfades. Then choose landscape 16:9, vertical 9:16 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok, or square 1:1, and export an MP4.

It is meant for quick everyday edits — a holiday montage, a product demo, a birthday slideshow, a short for social media — without installing an app or creating an account. There is no watermark and no upload: the editing, the preview and the export all happen on your own device.

How to edit a video online

  1. Drop your videos and photos onto the Clips box. Each one appears as a block on the timeline; photos start at 3 seconds.
  2. Click a clip to edit it: set where it starts and ends, or how long a photo shows. Move the playhead and press Split at playhead to cut a clip in two, then delete the part you do not want.
  3. Drag clips to reorder them, or use Move earlier and Move later. Press Add text at playhead for titles and captions, and drop a song under Background music.
  4. Pick the aspect ratio, export size, how clips of another shape are fitted and the crossfade length. Press Play to check the result.
  5. Press Export MP4, watch the progress bar (you can cancel), then press Download MP4.

Video Editor features

Videos and photos on one timeline

Mix MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV clips with JPG, PNG and WebP images. Each photo gets its own duration, so the tool doubles as a slideshow maker.

Trim, split, reorder, delete

Set in and out points to a hundredth of a second, split at the playhead, and reorder by mouse, finger, keyboard or buttons.

Text overlays with timing

Each text has its own start and end time, size, colour, position (top, middle or bottom) and an optional dark box for readability.

Music with fades and ducking

Add a song with its own volume, fade-in and fade-out, loop it to the end, and keep, lower or mute the clips’ own sound underneath.

Crossfades and aspect presets

Blend picture and sound between clips, and export 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1 with black bars, a blurred background, or a crop that fills the frame.

A live preview that matches the export

The preview and the exported file are drawn by the same compositor, so text, crops and fades look the same in both.

How the editor works

Clips are read with Mediabunny (MPL-2.0), an open-source media library loaded unmodified from a public CDN, and the browser’s WebCodecs video decoder and encoder. While you edit, the preview plays your clips through hidden video players and draws every frame onto a canvas, adding text and crossfades on top. When you export, the same drawing code runs again frame by frame on decoded frames at the chosen frame rate, and the result is encoded as H.264.

The soundtrack is built separately with the Web Audio API: each clip’s sound is cut to its trim, faded across the crossfades with an equal-power curve, lowered or muted under the music if you chose that, and mixed with the music and its fades. The mix is encoded as AAC and stored with the picture in one MP4 file.

Choosing the format

Clips whose shape differs from the output are either fitted inside the frame — with black bars or a soft, blurred copy of the clip behind them — or cropped to fill it. Crop works best when the subject is in the middle.

Limits worth knowing

  • The finished video is built in your browser’s memory, so very long edits or many 4K clips need a computer with plenty of free memory. Keep edits to a few minutes on phones.
  • When the browser has no WebCodecs H.264 encoder, the editor plays the edit once in real time and records it instead. That file is WebM (MP4 in Safari), and the page says so before you export.
  • Animated GIFs are added as still images. Text uses your device’s standard bold sans-serif font, so it can look slightly different on another computer.
  • One crossfade length applies to every cut, including the two halves of a split. Choose “None (cut)” for hard cuts.
  • For a single job there are quicker tools: Trim Video cuts one clip without re-encoding, Merge Videos joins matching clips losslessly, Add Audio to Video swaps a soundtrack, and Video Compressor shrinks the export afterwards.

Video Editor FAQ

Is this video editor free, and does it add a watermark?

It is free, needs no sign-up and never adds a watermark. Everything runs in your browser.

Are my videos uploaded anywhere?

No. Your videos, photos and music are read and encoded on your device. Only the Mediabunny library itself is downloaded from a public CDN.

Can I make a video from photos and music?

Yes. Drop the photos, set how long each one shows, add a song under Background music, choose a crossfade, and export an MP4 slideshow.

How do I make a vertical video for Reels, Shorts or TikTok?

Choose 9:16 vertical under Format and export. Landscape clips are fitted with a blurred background, or cropped to fill the frame if you prefer.

How do I add text to a video?

Move the playhead to where the text should appear and press Add text at playhead. Type your words, then set the start and end time, size, colour, position and box.

Why is my export a WebM file?

Your browser cannot encode H.264 with WebCodecs, so the editor records the edit in real time instead, which gives a WebM file in most browsers. A current Chrome, Edge or Safari exports MP4.

Which online video editor files can I open?

MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM and MKV videos with H.264, HEVC, VP8, VP9 or AV1 video that your browser can decode, plus JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP and AVIF images.
