    Stock card (item ledger)

A record-keeping aid, not accounting or tax advice. Check the valuation method your accountant and tax rules require for your books (Indian GAAP AS 2 and Ind AS 2 allow FIFO or weighted average, not LIFO).

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

A free stock register with closing stock, value and low-stock alerts

This stock register keeps the item-wise record every shop, godown, workshop or store needs: opening stock, stock in (purchases, receipts), stock out (sales, issues) and closing stock, with the closing stock valued at cost by FIFO or weighted average. It flags items at or below their reorder level, and items where more went out than came in.

It replaces the paper stock register book and the stock register format in Excel with formula: the register is worked out for any period you choose, each item has a stock card (bin card) with a running balance, and you can download the register or a full backup as CSV for Excel, or print it. Everything stays in this browser on your device — nothing is uploaded.

How to use the Stock Register – Simple Inventory Tracker

    1. Open Business and valuation settings to set your name, currency and FIFO or weighted average.
    2. Under Add an item, enter the name, unit, opening stock, opening rate and an optional reorder level.
    3. Record each receipt as Stock in with its cost rate, and each sale or issue as Stock out.
    4. Read the register; set From and To dates for a month or year, and open an item’s stock card for its ledger.
    5. Print the register, download the register CSV, and download a backup CSV regularly; import it on another device.

    CSV and print

Register CSV, a backup that re-imports without duplicates, and a print view of just the register.

    How closing stock is calculated

Closing stock = opening stock + stock in − stock out, item by item. Value depends on the method. Example: 100 kg of rice at ₹50, then 50 kg bought at ₹56, 120 kg sold, 30 kg bought at ₹60 and 25 kg sold. Closing stock is 35 kg either way. FIFO issues the oldest stock first: the 120 kg sold cost 100 × 50 + 20 × 56 = ₹6,120, the next 25 kg cost ₹1,400, and the 35 kg left are valued at 5 × 56 + 30 × 60 = ₹2,080. Weighted average re-averages after each purchase: ₹52 for the first 150 kg, ₹56 after the second purchase, so the 35 kg left are worth ₹1,960.

For a month’s register, the opening stock is what was left at the end of the previous day — with the dates 6 to 31 October above, rice opens at 30 kg worth ₹1,680.

    Good practice and limits

    • Count physical stock regularly and record differences as stock in or stock out with a note, so the register matches the shelf.
    • Rates are cost prices; selling prices belong in your sales records — see the daily sales report and the price list maker.
    • Set reorder levels with the reorder point calculator and order sizes with the EOQ calculator.
    • This is a single-user register in one browser. It is not GST-compliant accounting software and does not handle batches, expiry dates or multiple godowns.

Stock Register – Simple Inventory Tracker FAQ

    What is a stock register?

A record of each item’s opening stock, receipts, issues and closing stock, usually with the value at cost. It is kept by shops, stores, godowns and offices.

What is the stock register format?

Item, unit, opening stock, stock in, stock out, closing stock and value, plus date-wise entries on each item’s stock card. This stock register follows that format and exports it as CSV.

Is there a stock register app that works offline?

Once this page has loaded, the register works in your browser and saves on your device. Download a backup CSV to keep a copy or move to another device.

How do I make a stock register in Excel with formulas?

Closing = opening + in − out for each item. Easier: keep the entries here and download the register CSV, which opens in Excel with every column filled in.

Should I use FIFO or weighted average?

Both are accepted cost formulas under AS 2 and Ind AS 2 (LIFO is not). FIFO values closing stock at recent prices; weighted average smooths price changes. Ask your accountant which your books use.

    Where is my data stored?

Only in this browser’s local storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded, so clearing site data deletes it — keep backups.
