A gacha pity calculator for planning your pulls
Gacha banners hide a lot of maths behind one button. This pity calculator turns your pulls, your current pity count and your 50/50 status into a clear answer: the chance of getting the featured character or weapon, how many pulls you should expect to need, and the worst case if hard pity hits every time.
It calculates exactly — every possible sequence of pulls is accounted for with a Markov chain, not a random simulation — and it shows a chart of your chance at every pull count. Presets load published rates for popular banners; everything is editable, so it works for any game that publishes its base rate, hard pity and featured chance. It is a planning tool: it describes probabilities, not what will happen on your account.
How to use the pity calculator
- Choose a banner preset, or Custom rates. Open Rates used to check or edit the base rate, hard pity, soft pity and featured chance against your game’s details page.
- Enter your current pity — the pulls since your last top-rarity item — and tick I lost the 50/50 if your next one is guaranteed.
- Enter the pulls you have, and optionally the currency you have saved and its cost per pull.
- Set how many copies of the featured item you want.
- Read your chance, the expected pulls, the pulls needed for 50 %, 90 % and 99 %, and how much more currency each target needs.
Gacha Pity Calculator features
Exact probabilities
A full state model of pity, guarantee and copies — no Monte Carlo noise, the same answer every time.
Soft and hard pity
Rates rise by a set amount each pull from the soft-pity start; hard pity guarantees the item.
50/50 and guarantees
Any featured chance, with or without a guarantee after a loss, and your current guarantee status.
Several copies
Plan for up to ten copies of the featured item, for constellations, eidolons or refinements.
Model check
Shows the average rate the model implies next to the published consolidated rate, so you can see how close the assumptions are.
How pity and the 50/50 are calculated
On pull n since your last top-rarity item, the chance is the base rate until soft pity starts, then base + increase × (n − start + 1), and 100 % at hard pity. With the character-banner model — 0.6 % base, soft pity from pull 74 rising 6 % per pull, hard pity 90 — a top-rarity item arrives on average every 62.3 pulls, an average rate of 1.605 %. That sits right next to the published consolidated rate of 1.6 %, which is why this model is widely used.
When an item arrives it is the featured one with the featured chance (50 % on a classic 50/50). If not, and the banner guarantees the next one, the following top-rarity item is featured for certain. So one featured character takes 1.5 × 62.3 ≈ 93.4 pulls on average, and the worst case is 180.
Rates in the presets
Base rates, hard pity and featured chances are as shown in the games’ in-game details pages and reported in banner notices, checked on 19 October 2026. Soft pity is not published by the developers: the start pulls and the base × 10 per-pull increase come from community analysis of large wish histories (KQM Theorycrafting Library, 2021), and the light cone values are tuned so the model reproduces the published 1.87 %. Capturing Radiance (introduced in Genshin 5.0, 2024) is simplified to a 55 % featured chance. Developers change banners — always compare with your game’s current details page.
| Banner | Base | Hard pity | Soft pity (estimate) | Featured | Published consolidated |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Genshin Impact — character event (50/50) | 0.6 % | 90 | 74 (+6 %/pull) | 50 %, then guaranteed | 1.6 % |
| Genshin Impact — character event (≈55 % with Capturing Radiance) | 0.6 % | 90 | 74 (+6 %/pull) | 55 %, then guaranteed | 1.6 % |
| Genshin Impact — weapon event (chosen weapon, 1 fate point) | 0.7 % | 80 | 63 (+7 %/pull) | 37.5 %, then guaranteed | — |
| Honkai: Star Rail — character event | 0.6 % | 90 | 74 (+6 %/pull) | 50 %, then guaranteed | 1.6 % |
| Honkai: Star Rail — light cone event | 0.8 % | 80 | 66 (+7 %/pull) | 75 %, then guaranteed | 1.87 % |
Reading the results sensibly
- Expected pulls are an average, not a promise. Plan with the 90 % row if you really want the item, and know the worst case.
- Pity usually carries over between banners of the same type, so enter the count shown in your history, not zero.
- Independent pulls. The model assumes each pull follows the published rates; there is no “due” beyond what pity provides.
- For general odds — dice, draws and repeated tries — use the probability calculator.
Gacha Pity Calculator FAQ
How does pity work in gacha games?
Pity counts your pulls since the last top-rarity item. At hard pity the next pull is guaranteed to be top rarity; many games also raise the chance from a soft-pity point a few pulls earlier.
How many pulls do I need for a guaranteed featured character?
With 90-pull hard pity and a 50/50 followed by a guarantee, 180 pulls from zero pity is the worst case. On average about 94 pulls are needed with the common soft-pity model.
When does soft pity start?
Community data puts it at about pull 74 on 90-pity character banners and about 63 on 80-pity weapon banners. Developers do not publish it, so the calculator lets you edit it.
Does the pity calculator work for HSR and other games?
Yes. Pick a preset or choose Custom and enter the base rate, hard pity, soft pity and featured chance from your game’s banner details.
What does “consolidated probability” mean?
It is the published average rate including the effect of pity — for a 0.6 % base with 90-pull pity, 1.6 %. The calculator shows the rate its model implies next to it.
Is the result a guarantee?
No. It is a probability for planning. Pulls are random and rates can change, so treat it as a guide and set a spending budget.
