Check the page size of any PDF
Is this PDF A4 or US Letter? Will it print correctly on A3, and does the print shop’s file have the right trim size? The PDF Page Size Checker reads the dimensions of every page and shows them in millimetres, centimetres, inches or points, together with the standard paper name and orientation.
Many PDFs quietly mix sizes — a landscape spreadsheet inside a portrait report, a scanned receipt among A4 pages, US Letter pages from a colleague in New York merged with A4 pages from London or Delhi. The checker groups pages by size, warns when sizes or orientations are mixed, and lists the MediaBox, CropBox, BleedBox, TrimBox and ArtBox that printers and prepress software rely on.
The PDF is measured in your browser and never uploaded. Results can be copied into a spreadsheet or saved as CSV.
How to use the PDF Page Size Checker
- Drop a PDF onto the upload area or click it to choose one.
- Pick the units you want: mm, cm, inches or points.
- Read the summary: the most common page size, its dimensions, the page count and how many distinct sizes the file contains.
- Check the list of page sizes and the table for individual pages, including rotation and every page box.
- Adjust the paper-size tolerance if a size is close to a standard but not recognised, then download the CSV if you need a record.

Understanding PDF page boxes
A PDF page can define up to five rectangles. The MediaBox is the full physical page. The CropBox is the area a viewer shows and prints by default, so this tool reports page size from the CropBox when one is set. The BleedBox marks how far artwork extends for trimming tolerance, the TrimBox is the finished size after cutting, and the ArtBox outlines the meaningful content, for example an advert placed on a page.
Sizes are stored in points, where 72 points make one inch and one point is 0.3528 mm. A page can also carry a /Rotate value of 90, 180 or 270 degrees; a portrait A5 page rotated by 90 degrees is displayed and printed as landscape, which is how it is reported here. Very large drawings may use /UserUnit to scale units beyond the normal 200-inch limit.
Fixing size problems
If pages are sideways, turn them with Rotate PDF. To move odd-sized pages to the end or into a separate file, use Organize PDF or Extract PDF Pages. For print jobs, also confirm images are sharp enough with the PDF Resolution Checker.
PDF Page Size Checker FAQ
How do I find the page size of a PDF?
Drop the file into the PDF Page Size Checker. The summary shows the main paper size (such as A4 or US Letter) and its exact dimensions, and the table lists the size of every page.
How can I tell whether my PDF is A4 or Letter?
A4 is 210 × 297 mm (8.27 × 11.69 in) and US Letter is 8.5 × 11 in (215.9 × 279.4 mm). The checker names the size automatically, using a tolerance of ±2 mm by default.
Why does my PDF show a size of “Custom”?
Its pages don’t match any standard paper size within the chosen tolerance — common with scans, screenshots, slides and design files. Raise the tolerance if the size is only slightly off a standard.
What is the difference between MediaBox and TrimBox?
The MediaBox is the whole page including any bleed and printer marks; the TrimBox is the final size after the printed sheet is cut. Print shops normally ask for the TrimBox to match your ordered size.
How many points are in an inch or a millimetre?
PDF uses 72 points per inch, so one millimetre is about 2.835 points and an A4 page is 595.28 × 841.89 points.
Is my PDF uploaded to check its size?
No. The file is opened in your browser, measured locally and never sent anywhere.
