Markdown to HTML Converter

Convert GitHub-flavoured Markdown to clean HTML with a live, sandboxed preview.

Result

Raw HTML inside your Markdown is passed through to the output, as Markdown allows. The preview runs in a sandboxed frame with no access to this page, but review HTML from untrusted sources before you publish it.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

Convert Markdown to HTML with a live preview

The Markdown to HTML Converter turns Markdown into clean, standards-compliant HTML as you type. Write or paste on the left and see the formatted page on the right, or switch to HTML code to copy the markup for a blog, CMS, email template or documentation site.

It follows GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM), the dialect used in README files, issues and many documentation tools, so tables, task lists, strikethrough, automatic links and fenced code blocks with a language label all work exactly as you would expect. Optional heading IDs make every section linkable, and a single tick wraps the result in a complete, styled HTML document you can open in any browser.

Conversion runs entirely on your device with the open-source marked library, so drafts, internal docs and private notes are never uploaded.

How to use the Markdown to HTML Converter

  1. Type or paste Markdown into the Markdown box, drop a .md file onto it, or press Load .md file. Press Sample to see every supported feature.
  2. Watch the Preview update as you type. Switch to HTML code to see the generated markup.
  3. Choose options: heading IDs for anchor links, a line break on every new line, links opening in a new tab, or a full HTML document with built-in CSS.
  4. Check the word count, headings, links and reading time in the stats panel.
  5. Press Copy HTML, or Download .html to save a ready-to-open page.

Line breaks and HTML inside Markdown

In standard Markdown, a single line break inside a paragraph is treated as a space; you start a new paragraph with a blank line, and force a line break by ending a line with two spaces. Many people expect every Enter key to create a new line, as it does in GitHub comments — tick Line break on every new line for that behaviour.

Markdown also lets you write raw HTML, such as <kbd>, <details> or an embedded video, and it is copied into the output unchanged. That is useful, but it means Markdown from an unknown source can contain scripts. The preview here is sandboxed and cannot touch this page, but if you publish Markdown written by other people, pass the HTML through a sanitiser on your server first.

Where to use the HTML

  • Blogs and CMSs: paste the fragment into the HTML or code view of WordPress, Ghost or a static-site template.
  • Documentation: download a full page and host it anywhere, or open it locally in a browser.
  • Email: start from the fragment, then check it in your email platform, as mail clients support only basic HTML.
  • Going the other way: to turn an existing web page back into Markdown, use the HTML to Markdown converter. To check rendered markup, try the HTML Viewer, and to shrink the result, the HTML Minifier.

Markdown to HTML Converter FAQ

Is this Markdown to HTML converter free?

Yes. It is free, unlimited and needs no account. Everything happens in your browser, so your text is never uploaded.

Does it support GitHub Flavored Markdown?

Yes. Tables, task lists, strikethrough, autolinked URLs and fenced code blocks follow the GitHub Flavored Markdown specification.

Why does a single line break not show in the preview?

Standard Markdown joins lines within a paragraph. Leave a blank line to start a new paragraph, end the line with two spaces, or tick “Line break on every new line”.

Is it safe to preview Markdown from other people?

The preview is rendered in a sandboxed frame with no access to this page, your cookies or your storage. The HTML output, however, contains any raw HTML the Markdown included, so sanitise it before putting it on a website that others visit.

How do I add a table of contents?

Keep “Add heading IDs” ticked, then link to sections with their IDs, for example [Pricing](#pricing). IDs are lowercase, with spaces turned into hyphens.

Can I convert a README.md file?

Yes. Press “Load .md file” or drop the file onto the Markdown box, then download the result as a complete HTML page.
