Convert CSV or Excel contacts to a VCF file
Phones do not import spreadsheets — they import vCards. The CSV to VCF converter turns a contact list in CSV or Excel (.xlsx, .xls, .ods) into a .vcf file that iPhone, Android, Google Contacts, Outlook and almost every email program can import in one go.
Columns are matched for you. Exports from Google Contacts and Outlook are recognised from their headers, and everyday headings such as “Name”, “Mobile No.”, “E-mail ID” or “Pin code” — including Hindi headings like नाम, मोबाइल and ईमेल, and common Spanish, French, German and Portuguese ones — go to the right vCard fields. You can change any match before downloading.
Your list never leaves your device, and the finished vCards are read back and checked before you download them.
How to use the CSV to VCF Converter
- Drop your CSV or Excel file on the box, or paste CSV text. Workbooks with several sheets get a sheet picker.
- Check Match your columns: each column shows its first value and the vCard field it will become. Fix anything that is wrong, or choose “Skip this column”.
- Pick the vCard version — 3.0 works with everything — and whether you want one file or one file per contact.
- If your numbers have no country code, tick Format phone numbers and pick the country so +91, +1 or +44 is added correctly.
- Look over the preview, press Download vCard, and import the file into your phone or email app.
CSV to VCF Converter features
Smart column matching
Google Contacts (old and new CSV formats) and Outlook exports are detected automatically, along with common headings in English, Hindi and other languages. Unnamed columns are recognised from their values when they hold emails or phone numbers.
Excel and CSV
Reads .csv, .tsv, .xlsx, .xls and .ods. Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe delimiters and UTF-8, UTF-16 or Windows-1252 text are detected, and Excel date cells are read exactly rather than guessed.
International phone format
Optional E.164 formatting adds the country code and drops the trunk 0 — 098765 43210 becomes +919876543210 — and leaves numbers it cannot verify, such as toll-free 1800 numbers, exactly as typed.
Standards-compliant vCards
vCard 3.0 (RFC 2426) or 4.0 (RFC 6350) with escaped text, UTF-8 lines folded at 75 bytes, CRLF line endings, phone, email and address types, birthdays (even without a year), anniversaries, groups and notes.
One file or many
Download a single .vcf holding every contact — the easiest to import — or a ZIP with one .vcf per contact, named after each person.
Checked before download
The generated vCards are parsed again and compared with your rows, and the preview shows what each contact will contain.
How to import the VCF file
| Where | How to import |
|---|---|
| iPhone or iPad | Email the .vcf to yourself or save it in Files, open it and tap “Add All Contacts”. For large lists, import it at iCloud.com → Contacts. |
| Android | In the Contacts app open Fix & manage (or Settings → Import/export) → Import from file and pick the .vcf. |
| Google Contacts | On contacts.google.com choose Import and select the .vcf. |
| Outlook for Windows | Outlook reads only the first contact of a multi-contact .vcf, so use “One .vcf per contact” or import the CSV with Outlook’s import wizard. |
| Mac, Thunderbird, Nextcloud | Drag the .vcf into the address book or use its Import command. |
vCard 3.0 or 4.0?
vCard 3.0 is the safe choice: it is what iPhone, Android, Google and Outlook export themselves, and every importer reads it. vCard 4.0 is the newer standard used by Nextcloud, Thunderbird and other CardDAV address books; it stores anniversaries and year-less birthdays natively. Both are written as UTF-8, so names in any script import correctly.
Getting your CSV ready
- One contact per row, with a header row — the first row is used to match the columns.
- Separate first and last names if you can. A single “Name” column is split automatically, so “Dr. Priya Sharma” becomes prefix Dr., first name Priya and last name Sharma.
- Several numbers for one person can sit in separate columns (Mobile, Work phone) or in one cell separated by “ ::: ”, the way Google exports them.
- Write dates as 1990-05-17, or set “Dates in the file”: 03/04/1990 is 3 April in India and the UK but March 4 in the US.
- To go the other way, or to inspect a vCard someone sent you, use the VCF to CSV converter; to clean a list first, remove duplicate lines.
CSV to VCF Converter FAQ
How do I convert an Excel contact list to VCF?
Drop the .xlsx file on this page, check that each column is matched to the right field and press Download vCard. There is no need to save it as CSV first.
How do I import CSV contacts to my iPhone?
iPhone cannot import CSV files. Convert the CSV to VCF here, then open the .vcf on the iPhone from Mail or Files and tap “Add All Contacts” — or import it at iCloud.com.
Why are some phone numbers “left as typed”?
With formatting switched on, a number is changed only when it fits the length rules of the chosen country. Short codes, toll-free numbers, extensions and numbers containing letters are kept exactly as they were, so nothing gets broken.
Can I convert a Google Contacts or Outlook CSV export?
Yes. Both are detected from their column names, including Google’s numbered “Phone 1 - Label / Phone 1 - Value” pairs, so labels such as Mobile, Work and your own custom labels are kept.
Which vCard version should I choose?
Choose 3.0 unless you know your app prefers 4.0. vCard 3.0 imports everywhere, including iPhone, Android, Google Contacts and Outlook.
Is my contact list uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted in your browser. Excel files are opened with the free SheetJS library loaded from a public CDN, but your data never leaves your device.
What is the difference between VCF and vCard?
There is none — vCard is the format and .vcf is its file extension. One .vcf file can hold a single contact or thousands of them.
