A chord sheet maker for lyrics with chords above the words

This chord sheet maker turns your lyrics and chords into a clean, printable song sheet. Type the words with chords in square brackets — Oh, [G]give me a [G7]home — or paste a sheet that already has chords on the line above the lyrics, and the preview lines every chord up over the right syllable. Add a title, key, tempo and capo, split the song into verses and choruses, and print it or save it as a PDF in one or two columns.

It is built for singers, worship teams, teachers and guitarists who need a tidy chart for the music stand. Transpose the whole song in semitone steps, show capo shapes, add guitar or ukulele chord diagrams, or switch to lyrics only for the singers. Your sheet stays in your browser: nothing is uploaded, and the draft is remembered on this device until you change it.

How to use the Chord Sheet Maker

  1. Type or paste your song into Song. Use the [Chord], Verse, Chorus and Title buttons to insert the markup, or Open file for a .cho, .chordpro or .txt file.
  2. If you pasted chords above the lyrics, the sheet is read as it is; press Convert to ChordPro to rewrite the text with inline chords (Undo is one click).
  3. Transpose with +1 / −1, choose a Capo to show the shapes you will actually play, and pick sharps or flats.
  4. Choose Chord diagrams, Columns and Text size, or tick Lyrics only.
  5. Press Download PDF (A4 or US Letter), Print, ChordPro, Text or Copy share link.

Chord Sheet Maker features

Chords stay over the syllable

Each chord is tied to the text that follows it, so lines can wrap on a phone or in a narrow column without the chord sliding away from its word.

ChordPro in and out

Reads the common ChordPro directives — title, subtitle, artist, key, capo, tempo, time, comments, verse/chorus/bridge sections, tab blocks, column and page breaks — and writes a standard .cho file back.

Transpose and capo

Transposition uses the same music-theory engine as the chord transposer, so chords are spelled for the new key; the capo option shows the shapes while the header keeps the real key.

Diagram strip

Every chord in the song gets a generated guitar or ukulele diagram at the top of the sheet. Tap a chord to hear it.

Real PDF

A vector PDF at A4 or Letter size in one or two columns, with headers, chorus bars and page numbers.

Share link

The whole sheet fits in a link (encoded after the #, never sent to a server), so a bandmate opens exactly the same chart.

Two ways to write chords over lyrics

Most chord sheets on the web put chords on their own line above the lyrics, lined up with spaces. That looks right only in a monospaced font and breaks as soon as a line wraps. ChordPro, an open plain-text format used by many songbook apps, puts each chord in square brackets inside the lyric instead: Where the [G]deer and the [Em]antelope [A7]play. This chord sheet maker accepts both: chord lines are matched to the lyric line below them by column, and Convert to ChordPro writes the result back so you can keep editing safely.

How it differs from the chord transposer

The chord transposer is for quickly shifting a pasted sheet and finding the easiest capo position. The chord sheet maker is the authoring and printing tool: it keeps titles, sections and notes, lays the song out on paper with diagrams and columns, and exports ChordPro, text, PDF and links. Use the chord progression generator to find chords for a new song — its “Open in chord sheet maker” button opens the progression here — and the guitar tab maker for riffs and solos.

Limits and copyright

  • The PDF uses the standard Helvetica font, which covers Western European letters. For Hindi, Tamil, Chinese and other scripts, choose Print and then “Save as PDF” — the browser keeps every character.
  • Key detection without a {key:} line is an estimate from the chords; add the directive to be sure.
  • Lyrics of most songs are copyrighted. Making a sheet for your own practice is common, but sharing or printing copies for others may need permission. The example song here is in the public domain.

Chord Sheet Maker FAQ

How do I make a chord sheet with lyrics?

Type the lyrics and put each chord in square brackets just before the syllable where it changes, e.g. Oh, [G]give me a home. Add {title: …} at the top, then download the PDF or print.

Can I paste chords that are above the lyrics?

Yes. Chord lines above lyric lines are recognised automatically and shown correctly; press Convert to ChordPro if you want the text rewritten with inline chords.

Is this chord sheet maker free?

Yes — free, no sign-up and no watermark. Everything happens in your browser.

How do I transpose the chord sheet?

Press +1 or −1 to move every chord a semitone. The header shows the new key, and the ChordPro and PDF exports use it.

What does the capo option do?

It keeps the song’s real key in the header but shows the chord shapes you play with the capo on that fret — for example capo 2 in A shows G shapes.

Which file formats can I export?

PDF (A4 or US Letter, one or two columns), ChordPro (.cho), plain text with chords above the lyrics, and a share link.
