Work out a quantity as nos × length × breadth × depth (CPWD-style measurement to two decimals) and add it as a BOQ line.

Quantity: 21.60 m³

Items by section

Every line has a section; change it in the line’s Section box to file it under plumbing, electrical, flooring and so on.

BOQ maker: a bill of quantities with sections, abstract, PDF and CSV

A BOQ (bill of quantities) lists every item of work in a construction project — excavation, concrete, steel, masonry, plaster, flooring, plumbing, electrical — with its unit, quantity, rate and amount. Engineers prepare it from the drawings so that contractors can price the same quantities in a tender, and the client can compare bids and pay against measured work. This free BOQ maker builds one in your browser.

Add items under civil-works sections, each with an item code (for example your schedule-of-rates item number), description, unit, quantity and rate. The BOQ shows section subtotals, an abstract of cost with each section’s share, optional contingencies, GST (CGST + SGST or IGST) and the grand total in figures and words. A measurement helper turns nos × length × breadth × depth into a quantity, and the finished BOQ downloads as a PDF or as a CSV file that opens in Excel. Nothing is uploaded, and it does not contain built-in rates — use your schedule of rates or quotations.

How to use the BOQ Maker

  1. Press Load example to see a filled BOQ, or start with your own reference, date, name of work and basis of rates.
  2. Fill in who prepared it and the client.
  3. Add items with the section buttons; for each, enter the item code, description, unit, quantity, rate and GST %.
  4. Use the measurement helper to calculate a quantity from dimensions and add it as a line.
  5. Set contingencies (if this is an estimate) and the tax type and place of supply.
  6. Download the PDF to print or send, or the CSV to open in Excel; save drafts in this browser.

BOQ full form and what goes in a bill of quantities

BOQ stands for Bill of Quantities. A typical BOQ has columns for item number, item code, description of item, unit, quantity, rate and amount, grouped into sections (often called trades or sub-heads), with subtotals and a summary or abstract at the end. In a BOQ in a tender, the quantities are fixed by the employer and bidders fill in rates; a priced BOQ is the contractor’s offer. Measurement normally follows a standard method — in India, IS 1200 and the CPWD specifications.

How the totals are worked out

Each amount is quantity × rate. Section subtotals add their items, and the total of sections adds every section. Contingencies, if set, are a percentage of that total; GST is charged on the result at each item’s rate; the grand total is shown in figures and words. Example (the sample BOQ): seven sections total ₹7,91,532.50, contingencies at 3% add ₹23,745.98, and GST at 18% within Maharashtra (CGST ₹73,375.06 + SGST ₹73,375.06) brings the grand total to ₹9,62,028.60. Masonry is the largest section at 35.7%.

Getting the quantities right

  • Take quantities from the drawings, section by section, and record the measurements (nos × L × B × D) so they can be checked.
  • Concrete, masonry and excavation are measured in m³, plaster, flooring and painting in m², skirting and pipes in metres, steel in kg or tonnes.
  • Use the construction material calculator for cement, sand and aggregate, the bar bending schedule for steel weights and the excavation calculator for earthwork.
  • For a quick early budget rather than an item-wise BOQ, try the house construction cost calculator; for repair or renovation jobs priced as labour and materials, the estimate generator.
  • GST rates on works contracts depend on the work and the client; confirm the applicable rate before pricing a tender.

BOQ Maker FAQ

What is the full form of BOQ?

Bill of Quantities — an itemised list of the work in a project with units, quantities, rates and amounts.

What is a BOQ in a tender?

The schedule of quantities the employer issues with the tender documents. Bidders quote rates against each item, and the priced BOQ becomes part of the contract.

Does this tool include CPWD DSR rates?

No. It has no built-in rates; type rates from the DSR, your state schedule of rates or supplier quotations, and record the basis on the BOQ.

Can I open the BOQ in Excel?

Yes. Download CSV gives every item with its section, code, unit, quantity, rate and amount, plus subtotals and the grand total, ready for Excel or Google Sheets.

How do I calculate a quantity for a BOQ item?

Multiply number × length × breadth × depth for volumes, length × breadth for areas, or use length alone. The measurement helper does this and adds the line.

Is my BOQ stored online?

No. Drafts are saved in this browser only; use Export JSON to back them up.
