Add album art to your music files in a few clicks

A song without artwork shows up as a grey note on phones, car screens and media players. This free tool lets you add album art to MP3, M4A, FLAC, OGG, Opus and WAV files: pick a picture, let it be cropped to a square and resized to a sensible size, then embed it into one song or a whole album at once.

The cover is written into the file’s own tag area — ID3 APIC frames in MP3 and WAV, the covr atom in M4A, PICTURE blocks in FLAC and METADATA_BLOCK_PICTURE in OGG and Opus — so it travels with the music to any device. The audio itself is copied untouched, and everything runs locally in your browser.

How to use the Add Album Art

  1. Drop the cover picture into step 1, or click to choose it. A preview shows the original size and exactly what will be embedded.
  2. Choose the options: target size, crop to a square, JPG or PNG, a size limit and whether to replace all pictures or only the front cover.
  3. Drop the audio files into step 3 — a single song or every track of the album.
  4. Press “Embed cover”. Each file is written and read back to confirm the picture is there and the audio is unchanged.
  5. Download the files one by one or all together as a ZIP.

Add Album Art features

Square crop

Wide or tall photos are cropped from the centre so they fill the square tile that players display.

Sensible sizes

Resize to 500, 1000, 1400 or 3000 pixels, or keep the original — pictures are only ever made smaller.

Size limit

Set a maximum of 200 KB to 2 MB and the JPEG quality is lowered step by step (and the picture shrunk if needed) until it fits — useful for older car stereos and MP3 players.

Original kept when possible

If no crop, resize or conversion is needed, the image file is embedded exactly as it is, without recompression.

Front cover only, if you like

Replace just the front cover and keep back covers, booklet pages or artist photos already in the file.

No quality loss

Only the tags are rebuilt. MP4 chunk offsets are updated and Ogg pages renumbered so every file plays exactly as before.

Which cover size should I use?

Remember that the picture is stored in every file: a 2 MB cover on a 15-track album adds 30 MB. For everyday listening 1000 or 1400 pixels is plenty.

SizeTypical JPG sizeGood for
500 × 50040–120 KBOlder MP3 players and car stereos, large libraries on small phones
1000 × 1000120–350 KBA good balance for phones, tablets and most players
1400 × 1400200–600 KBSharp on high-resolution screens; the minimum for podcast artwork in Apple Podcasts
3000 × 30001–3 MBArchival copies and podcast artwork at the recommended maximum size

Tips for good-looking artwork

  • Use JPG for photos and artwork; PNG is only worth it for flat graphics or logos and makes files larger.
  • Some players, especially older ones, can’t show progressive JPEGs or pictures over 500 KB — use the 500 px size and a 200 KB limit for them.
  • Need the official cover? Search for it with the Album Art Downloader, then embed it here.
  • To check which pictures a file already contains, open it in the Audio Metadata Viewer; to edit titles and other tags at the same time, use the ID3 Tag Editor. For other picture edits, try Crop Image.

Add Album Art FAQ

How do I add album art to an MP3?

Drop the picture into step 1 and the MP3 into step 3, then press “Embed cover” and download the file. The cover is stored as an ID3 front-cover (APIC) frame that all major players read.

Can I add the same cover to a whole album?

Yes. Drop all the tracks into step 3; the prepared cover is embedded into every file in one go, and you can download them together as a ZIP.

Does adding a cover change the sound?

No. The audio data is copied byte for byte and checked with a hash after writing; only the tag area of the file changes.

Why doesn’t my player show the new cover?

Many players cache artwork. Replace the old file, then refresh or rescan the library. Very large or progressive JPEG covers may not show on older devices — try 500 or 1000 px.

Which formats can I add album art to?

MP3, AAC (ADTS), M4A/M4B/MP4, FLAC, OGG Vorbis, Opus and WAV. AIFF, WMA, APE and WavPack are not supported for writing.

Is my music uploaded?

No. The picture is prepared on a canvas in your browser and the files are edited locally; nothing is sent to a server.
