Open counts can be inflated by mail apps that load images automatically, such as Apple Mail Privacy Protection (introduced in 2021), so treat open rate as a rough signal and lean on clicks and conversions.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to a server.

Email campaign metrics calculator

This email campaign metrics calculator turns the raw counts from your email platform into the rates people compare: delivery rate, bounce rate, open rate, click-through rate, click-to-open rate, unsubscribe rate, spam complaint rate and conversion rate. Every row shows the formula, so you can see exactly which denominator was used.

That matters because platforms differ. Some divide by emails sent, some by emails delivered; this tool lets you choose and keeps the click-to-open rate on its own base of opens. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How to use the Email Campaign Metrics Calculator

  1. Enter the emails sent and how many bounced.
  2. Add the unique opens, unique clicks, unsubscribes and spam complaints from your report. Add conversions if you track them.
  3. Choose whether rates use delivered emails (recommended) or emails sent.
  4. Read the open rate at the top and the full table below. Warnings appear for high complaint rates.

Email Campaign Metrics Calculator features

Eight rates in one table

Delivery, bounce, open, click-through, click-to-open, unsubscribe, complaint and conversion rates, each with its formula.

Choose the base

Switch between delivered and sent to match the report you are comparing against.

Sense checks

Opens, clicks or bounces that cannot be true are flagged instead of calculated.

Complaint warning

Flags a complaint rate at or above 0.10% and 0.30%, the levels in Google’s sender guidelines.

Email metric formulas with an example

You send 10,000 emails and 200 bounce, so 9,800 are delivered. With 2,400 unique opens and 360 unique clicks, the open rate is 2,400 ÷ 9,800 = 24.49%, the click-through rate is 360 ÷ 9,800 = 3.67% and the click-to-open rate is 360 ÷ 2,400 = 15.00%.

Click-to-open rateunique clicks ÷ unique opens × 100

What each rate tells you

A falling delivery rate or a rising bounce rate points to list quality: old addresses, typos or a domain with a poor sending reputation. A weak open rate suggests a problem with the subject line, the sender name or the send time. A healthy open rate with a poor click-through rate suggests the content or the call to action is not persuading people. A high unsubscribe rate after one campaign usually means the message did not match what people signed up for, and a rising complaint rate is the most urgent warning of all because it affects whether your mail reaches the inbox.

Reading the numbers

  • Use unique opens and unique clicks (one per person), not total events, so one enthusiastic reader does not skew the rate.
  • Open tracking is unreliable. Mail apps that preload images, including Apple Mail Privacy Protection, can count an open that no person made, while blocked images hide real ones. Clicks and conversions are firmer evidence.
  • Google’s email sender guidelines ask bulk senders to keep the spam rate below 0.10% and never reach 0.30% (Gmail Help, checked 24 October 2026). Gmail measures this from its own data, so use your figure as a guide.
  • To check whether one subject line beat another, test the two click rates in the A/B test significance calculator. For a single click-through rate with a confidence range, use the CTR calculator.

Email Campaign Metrics Calculator FAQ

How do you calculate email open rate?

Divide unique opens by delivered emails and multiply by 100. 2,400 opens out of 9,800 delivered is 24.49%.

What is click-to-open rate?

The share of people who opened the email and then clicked a link: unique clicks ÷ unique opens. It measures how compelling the content was once opened.

What is the difference between CTR and CTOR?

CTR divides clicks by delivered emails, so it includes people who never opened. CTOR divides clicks by opens, so it only counts people who saw the message.

Should I use sent or delivered emails?

Delivered is the usual choice because bounced emails never reached anyone. Use sent only if the report you are matching does.

What is a good open rate?

It varies by list, industry and how opens are tracked, and tracking changes have made opens less reliable. Compare against your own earlier campaigns rather than a published average.

Do soft bounces count as bounces?

Most platforms count both hard bounces (permanent failures) and soft bounces (temporary ones such as a full mailbox) in the bounce figure. Enter the total, or only the hard bounces if that is how you want to measure list quality.

What spam complaint rate is too high?

Google advises bulk senders to keep it below 0.10% and not to reach 0.30%. A high rate can send your mail to spam, so find the cause and clean your list.
